July 28, 2018 – The World Schools Debating Championship 2018 was held at Zagreb, Croatia from July 17th to 27th. For the first time in ISDS history, Team India reached the Semi-Finals and Finals of WSDC, winning the Silver. Team India Debater Dhananjay Ashok was ranked as the best speaker in the world and Team India Debaters Hemanth Chakravarthy and Tejas Subramaniam ranked 8th and 7th best ESL speakers respectively.
Team India end preliminary rounds ranking 2nd with 7 out of 8 wins and 20 ballots!

Round 2: Win – 2-1 versus Chile
Round 3: Win – 3-0 versus Estonia
Round 4: Win – 3-0 versus Netherlands
Round 5: Win 3-0 versus South Korea
Round 6: Win 3-0 versus Team England
Round 7: Win 2-1 versus Team China
Round 8: Loss 1-2 versus Team New Zealand

India Defeat Romania
Team India win the Octo Finals on a 5-0 decision proposing the motion ‘This house prefers a world with no belief in the after life’.
(Top 8) QUARTER FINALS
India Defeat Bangladesh
Team India defeats Team Bangladesh in the Quarter Finals on a 6 -1 decision and progresses through to the semi-finals of the world championships for the first time in its history.
Absolutely fantastic debate opposing the motion ‘THBT foreigners should not be allowed to own land in developing countries’.
(Top 4) SEMI FINALS
India Defeat 2017 World Champions, Singapore
Team India defeats reigning world champions Team Singapore opposing the motion ‘THB that rehabilitation should be the only consideration in criminal sentencing’.
Progresses through to the Grand Finals of the world championships.
(Top 2) GRAND FINALS
India Loses to China. Wins Silver.
Team India lose the final on a narrow margin (in a 5-4 decision to Team China) winning the Silver Cup.
Absolutely fantastic debate with Team India proposing the motion ‘This house believes that the West should end all arms sales and military cooperation with Saudi Arabia’ against Team China.
